(7:52:07 PM) lurkermeyer: Aaaaaaaaaaaanyway, this could potentially go on longer than it should. So! Are we talking about BITs?
(7:52:25 PM) lostieborden: Yes!
(7:52:36 PM) lostieborden: Does Jack need any BITs discussed?
(7:53:03 PM) lurkermeyer: I forget.
(7:54:50 PM) across_brantai: He had a Belief left, but he also got the lion's share of the BIT discussioning in person
(7:55:16 PM) lurkermeyer: Yes, the BITscussion. It was a good one, as all are.
(7:55:46 PM) lurkermeyer: I believe Jenna asked because we are at something of an empasse regarding hers, since we don't know her other beliefs.
(7:55:55 PM) lostieborden: Indeed
(7:58:15 PM) across_brantai: True. Okay, then, here are Jack's current Beliefs:
(7:58:26 PM) lurkermeyer: We could simply hash out the areas of greatest conflict for the Dutchess, so we'll have something to apply immediately when we know her Beliefs. Otherwise, if anyone's interested in cobbling up any Beliefs for any of the NPCs, that would be cool.
(7:58:39 PM) lurkermeyer: I am interestedin polishing off Jack here, though.
(7:58:53 PM) across_brantai: 1) I am going to put down Prince Gerard like the rabid dog he is - I'll start by exploiting Tristam's support.
(7:59:05 PM) lurkermeyer: Man, Tristam - I don't even know.
(7:59:13 PM) lurkermeyer: That might be one of my GM beliefs.
(7:59:20 PM) across_brantai: 2)The Duchess of Bath is everything that is pure and good in the world - convince her that she has a choice in how she lives.
(7:59:42 PM) lurkermeyer: I like that the source of this one is the same, but the goal is different.
(7:59:52 PM) lurkermeyer: Elegantly done.
(8:00:08 PM) lostieborden: I agree
(8:01:07 PM) lurkermeyer: As far as his third Belief is concerned, what was the one we eschewed?
(8:01:37 PM) lostieborden: Hmm... again, I don't recall
(8:01:43 PM) lurkermeyer: It is not on the website!
(8:01:57 PM) lurkermeyer: XD
(8:02:13 PM) across_brantai: The one that was disposed of was about the redistribution of wealth to the proletariat
(8:02:19 PM) lurkermeyer: Heh.
(8:02:39 PM) lurkermeyer: Right, so now Jack no longer believes that the redistribution of wealth will have any actual impact on anything.
(8:02:51 PM) lurkermeyer: Also he just isn't as interested in it.
(8:03:24 PM) lurkermeyer: Let's give him a Belief about Sorcery.
(8:03:33 PM) lostieborden: Ooo, good idea!
(8:03:34 PM) lurkermeyer: I want that to have a growing presence in the story of the game.
(8:03:48 PM) lurkermeyer: How does that go down, Brent?
(8:04:15 PM) lurkermeyer: I mean, hell, we were trying to figure out how to get him some new spells the other day, and talking about what Joseph's dark back history could be.
(8:04:17 PM) across_brantai: Sorcery? You wave your arms a bit, chant some latin and things go poof
(8:04:30 PM) lurkermeyer: So it's the arm waving I'm missing....
(8:04:41 PM) across_brantai: I am quite exciting about the prospect of a belief about sorcery!
(8:05:47 PM) lurkermeyer: I'm having trouble deciding what Jack's relationship to Sorcery is. He must not have a very deep and abiding respect for it, since he took off during Joseph's instruction. It seems like for him it's just a means to an end, despite being so much more than that in reality.
(8:06:09 PM) lostieborden: Maybe he needs to reconsider it as a means to attack Gerard
(8:06:19 PM) lostieborden: Since the Dutchess doesn't seem to be budging in her part
(8:06:21 PM) across_brantai: I imagine him taking off more because of teenage rebelliousness and Joseph not being great with teenagers
(8:06:26 PM) lurkermeyer: I can see that. He was a Wizard of War, after all.
(8:06:29 PM) lurkermeyer: Ha!
(8:06:36 PM) lurkermeyer: He got all gothed out and took off.
(8:06:41 PM) lostieborden: Hahah
(8:06:47 PM) across_brantai: He felt the call of king and country and Joseph disapproved
(8:06:48 PM) lurkermeyer: That or Twisted Sister showed up.
(8:06:59 PM) across_brantai: lawlz
(8:07:19 PM) lurkermeyer: Oh, man. Was this back during the reign of the true king?
(8:08:54 PM) across_brantai: Let me check the timeline
(8:09:12 PM) lurkermeyer: There's... there's a timeline?
(8:09:18 PM) lurkermeyer: Do I have access to this timeline?
(8:09:29 PM) across_brantai: Well there's a general timeline of how everyone's lifepaths fit together
(8:09:45 PM) across_brantai: Like, Gerard (assuming my write-up is kosher) has been a Prince of the Blood for around 10 years
(8:10:05 PM) lurkermeyer: Hmm! Which means Jack very well may have left to fight Gerard's war. How deliciuos!
(8:10:11 PM) lurkermeyer: *delicious!
(8:10:21 PM) lostieborden: Ironic!
(8:10:24 PM) across_brantai: I was going to check and see how long I've been a rogue wizard, but off the top of my head, I get the impression that the True king was reigning when I joined up, and at some point during my tenure Gerard took over.
(8:10:36 PM) across_brantai: I'm imagining that no matter who was in charge, it was Gerard's war, though
(8:10:40 PM) lurkermeyer: Allright, that's what I had bouncing around in my head.
(8:12:13 PM) across_brantai: Jack's much more driven by emotion than reason. He knows, on some level, that no good can come of him meddling in the affairs of the age, but he can't stand by and do nothing. I don't know if that has something to do with his relationship to sorcery?
(8:12:24 PM) lurkermeyer: Bwahahahahahahahahah!
(8:12:29 PM) lurkermeyer: He really is!
(8:12:32 PM) lurkermeyer: No arguement there!
(8:12:59 PM) lurkermeyer: I suppose it makes for a more compelling character.
(8:13:44 PM) lurkermeyer: *whew!* Anyway, I still haven't felt the tug that we've got material for a sound belief.
(8:13:54 PM) lurkermeyer: I still haven't smelled any good conflict.
(8:14:12 PM) lurkermeyer: Jack just doesn't seem to think very much about Sorcery.
(8:14:55 PM) lostieborden: I think he'll think more of it if he can use it
(8:15:01 PM) lostieborden: You know, to complete a belief
(8:15:05 PM) lostieborden: Just like Tristam!
(8:15:14 PM) lurkermeyer: Although, like Jenna suggested, if he decided make it his weapon to end the age of Prince Gerard, that would certainly be something.
(8:15:23 PM) across_brantai: It's just that jack has, like three spells that he knows
(8:15:26 PM) lurkermeyer: Heh!
(8:15:30 PM) lurkermeyer: Yeah he does.
(8:15:40 PM) across_brantai: So the situations he can bring it to bear in are somewhat limited
(8:16:11 PM) lurkermeyer: Oh, I was moving him towards just such a situation. Don't get all, "Man, I've got this sweet power, but the GM never wants me to use it!" I would only do that to Dave.
(8:16:27 PM) across_brantai: I'm thinking maybe something about how prince gerard has spent his whole life studying the arts of war, so the only chance he has to defeat him is to use the art he's been studying his whole life.
(8:16:35 PM) across_brantai: hahaha!
(8:16:36 PM) across_brantai: Dave!
(8:16:43 PM) across_brantai: He truly is the most deserving of us
(8:16:49 PM) lostieborden: Hahah
(8:16:49 PM) lurkermeyer: I'm just sayin' that I'm glad I wasn't running Dragonstar.
(8:16:55 PM) lostieborden: Srsly
(8:17:04 PM) lostieborden: I'd have decked him halfway through our campaign
(8:17:11 PM) lurkermeyer: Ha!
(8:17:30 PM) lurkermeyer: So that's why you never GM, eh? It just makes you way too violent.
(8:17:45 PM) across_brantai: I thought you decked him anyway?
(8:18:07 PM) lostieborden: I don't think I did
(8:18:08 PM) lostieborden: I wish I had
(8:18:17 PM) lurkermeyer: Are talking ingame or out of game? Cause if I missed that irl - man!
(8:19:20 PM) across_brantai: Maybe I was just imagining you doing it
(8:19:47 PM) lostieborden: Maybe you were willing it so hard you thought it happened
(8:20:09 PM) lurkermeyer: H'okay! Brent, I think that is an excellent seed for a Belief, if you are interested in going that route. It sets the stage for Jack to sink to Gerard's level, as it were.
(8:20:17 PM) thnts02 entered the room.
(8:20:25 PM) across_brantai: Welcome, weston!
(8:20:29 PM) thnts02: Yes, what?
(8:20:33 PM) thnts02: No, I'm kidding. ^_^
(8:20:35 PM) lostieborden: Weston!
(8:20:36 PM) lostieborden: Hello!
(8:20:41 PM) lurkermeyer: Saying 'fair's fair' in regards to a man like Gerard is certainly a bold thing.
(8:20:47 PM) lurkermeyer: And, hey, man, what up?
(8:20:53 PM) thnts02: Not much!
(8:21:09 PM) thnts02: Actually, just a bunch of boring paperwork.
(8:21:18 PM) lurkermeyer: Yuk!
(8:21:19 PM) across_brantai: I am interested in going that route, Paul, I'm just not sure how to reconcile adopting that Belief with the current situation in game, which seems somewhat immediate.
(8:21:20 PM) thnts02: Where's David?
(8:21:23 PM) across_brantai: Not online
(8:21:26 PM) thnts02: >_>
(8:21:27 PM) across_brantai: Or he'd be here
(8:21:31 PM) thnts02: Sure.
(8:21:32 PM) lurkermeyer: Probably at Dunham.
(8:21:33 PM) lurkermeyer: He lives there now.
(8:21:37 PM) lurkermeyer: Apparently.
(8:21:40 PM) thnts02: That's what I've seen!
(8:21:41 PM) across_brantai: 'strewth
(8:21:51 PM) thnts02: So, what did I miss?
(8:21:57 PM) lurkermeyer: BITs!
(8:22:01 PM) thnts02: Hm.
(8:22:02 PM) across_brantai: BITS!
(8:22:05 PM) lurkermeyer: It needs to be a breakfast cereal.
(8:22:14 PM) lurkermeyer: Like, BITs o' what? I dunno.
(8:22:17 PM) lurkermeyer: Corn and rice?
(8:22:17 PM) thnts02: It'd be made of suger-frosted bacon.
(8:22:20 PM) lurkermeyer: Uh....
(8:22:27 PM) across_brantai: BITs o' fire
(8:22:30 PM) thnts02: Bacon BITS
(8:22:35 PM) lurkermeyer: I would not eat that, even though I might otherwise want to.
(8:22:41 PM) thnts02: You can't use that unless you pay me.
(8:22:43 PM) across_brantai: BITs o' wheels that are on fire
(8:22:51 PM) lurkermeyer: I can't eat those either!
(8:22:54 PM) lurkermeyer: You are both fired!
(8:22:59 PM) thnts02: Ok. I'm going to bring up the page.
(8:23:03 PM) lostieborden: This is getting out of hand
(8:23:05 PM) lurkermeyer: XD
(8:23:29 PM) lurkermeyer: To bring things back around, Brent, I see what you are saying perfectly!
(8:23:44 PM) across_brantai: It started out of hand. ANYWAY, it is, I think, why we are having such difficulty with everyone's BITs
(8:24:10 PM) lurkermeyer: Oh? Please elaborate.
(8:24:39 PM) across_brantai: We're all left in somewhat immediate situations where our old Beliefs do not seem to fit, but the concerns of the moment are so pressing as to make adoption of long-term Beliefs somewhat uncomfortable, as well
(8:25:10 PM) lurkermeyer: Hmmm...
(8:25:12 PM) lurkermeyer: Hmmm!
(8:25:21 PM) across_brantai: I feel like if my Belief was about how I'm going to deal with Sir Olliver's quest it would be closer to the BWHQ definition of Beliefs.
(8:25:34 PM) lurkermeyer: Eh.
(8:25:42 PM) thnts02: BWHQ?
(8:25:44 PM) lurkermeyer: BWHQ is pretty out there.
(8:25:48 PM) lurkermeyer: Burning Wheel Headquarters.
(8:25:55 PM) lurkermeyer: Well, Head Quarters, I guess.
(8:26:05 PM) lurkermeyer: Luke Crane and his folk.
(8:26:08 PM) lurkermeyer: Thor etc.

BIT Discussion
I believe we have some Bitscussioning to do! When we parted ways, we were trying to think up one new Belief apiece for both Jack and the Duchess. Lady Anna and Sir Oliver also need some BITs! BITs BITs BITs!
Anyone have anything new to add?

Hiatus pt. 2, the Electric Boogaloo
Hey, guys, it's me, the wacky guy Paul! I thought I'd stop by to see who's still out there, and who's still interested in a game of Burning Wheel. Anyone who is, and is, well, drop a comment to that effect. If Brent and I can get the online thing working, we'll do that. If we can't, there's nothing saying that we Edwardsville area peeps can't take roleplaying back from Brent and just have games ourselves without him. Now that it's the summer, I am free anytime I want, so my schedule is a nonissue. Let me hear your thoughts.
